Context memory or structured personal data?
Generalist AIs have added a "memory": a few notes drawn from your exchanges, in a space you do not really control. That is not the same as keeping a reference set of facts about your life, sorted, dated and verifiable.
Two notions of memory
| Happy Assistant | Generalist AI |
|---|
| Nature | Facts structured by domain | Free notes taken from chat |
| Visibility | Dedicated screen, full list | Depends on the provider and settings |
| Correction | Fact by fact | Approximate |
| Deletion | One by one or all | Often global |
| Sensitive data | Confirmed before use | Stored without validation |
Sorting rather than piling up
Useful facts are filed by domain: family, couple, pets, work, interests, goals, food, health. Each one is dated and tied to a subject, which avoids contradictory memories and makes it clear why the assistant answered the way it did.
- A replaced fact keeps its update trace.
- Every fact can be viewed and deleted individually.
- Nothing is shared with other users.
Nothing sensitive without your consent
Mentioning a gluten-free slice of bread does not mean following a gluten-free diet. Health or food facts inferred from a conversation are therefore never used until you confirm them.
- The assistant spots sensitive information in the discussion.
- It asks for confirmation, in the thread, when it is relevant.
- Without a clear answer the fact stays in the "to confirm" queue and influences nothing.
- You approve or reject it, from the chat or from the Memory screen.
What this memory actually does
- Food alerts account for your allergies without you repeating them.
- The training plan knows your available days and constraints.
- Answers use the right names, city and work context.
- You never start a conversation from scratch again.
Frequently asked questions
Is memory sent to the model?
Only facts useful to the current request are sent, and strictly sensitive data (codes, IBAN, passwords) is masked beforehand.
Can I turn memory off?
Yes, entirely or only for sensitive topics, from your preferences.
How do I know what is stored?
The Memory screen lists every fact by domain, including those awaiting confirmation.
